• ways a group of items can be arranged in ordered sets, e.g.
123 ~ 123, 132, 213, 231, 312, 321.

• if repetition is allowed (e.g. 111, 222, the formula is
P = nk,
where
n = total number of items
k = selected number of items

• if repetition is not allowed (like a lottery draw),
the formula is
P = n!/(n – k)!
