sample space

• the set of all possible outcomes from a probability experiment, often denoted S or Ω.
• ways to determine sample space include drawing a tree diagram
or using the multiplication principle where the number of possibilities
in each set of choices are multiplied together, for example,
3 meal types with 2 side serve choices and 2 drink choices
= 3 possibilities x 2 possibilities x 2 possibilities = 12.
